We have made no secret here about being station wagon geeks. In an unholy land of minivans and SUVs, station wagons appeal to our TTS sensibilities thanks to a combination of practicality and car-like manners. Some are even downright sporting! There is already a station wagon in my family stable, and we need another car like a hole in the head. Still, a few months back when a good friend and TTS subscriber told me he was going to be selling the Classic Red European-delivery 2001 Volvo V70 2.4T wagon that he bought new, and selling it cheap, my brain started trying to come up with reasons to buy it.

The Italians have always done things just a little bit differently, and with a little bit of flair. Take the Alfa 164 for example: at a time when its European competition came in the form of cars like the solid but Germanically-sober Mercedes W124 and BMW E34 sedans, the 164 stood apart with its show car styling and powerful front wheel drive powertrain. In “S” form, the Alfa’s sweet V6 produced a remarkable for the time 200hp, catapulting the car from 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds and on up to a top speed nearing 150mph. The trouble with 164s is that it is getting harder and harder to find good ones. Many owners simply aren’t prepared for the commitment that a proper Italian car requires, and instead opt to let them fall into a state of disrepair and ultimately become little more than driveway ornaments. That’s why this red 164S grabbed our attention. Despite having over 150,000 miles, it shows all the signs of having been properly cared for. Find it
here on eBay in Pipersville, PA with a buy it now price of $7,495 or best offer.
Yes, folks, the blog has been quiet for a while. Truth be told, our day jobs have been taking it out of us lately, and we haven’t even been scanning the classifieds lately, much less blogging about interesting finds! That is, until this weekend when I was doing some catch-up writing for one of my other automotive outlets, and I managed to revitalize my dormant car hunting gene. I’ve actually stumbled across a few interesting things over the past few days, but this one really asks the question that we are all about: are you totally that stupid? The car in question is the 1995 Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500 roadster you see here, available
here on Craigslist in my hometown of Fairfax, VA for just $3,900. Seriously, beat Miata money for a V8-powered Mercedes Sports Leicht two-seater!
